The reality is that you really don’t want to do a lot of extreme planning until you know your students and their learning needs, so this is not the end of the world. The first week will set the tone for your whole year. You will need to teach procedures, transitions, and review your learning goals. Create a bunch of activities to teach students how to work in groups and transition quickly. Review Wong’s book, First Days of School, if you need help in this area. Good luck!
